For the first time in the history of the UW-Eau Claire campus in Wisconsin Safe Space training was made part of training for all 125 Resident Assistants on campus. This is not just a big deal on my campus, this is a monumental change on the UWEC campus. Words cannot begin to explain the excitement I felt when I got to take part and become one of the first facilitators to make this happen. I wasn't sure what type of reaction we would be getting from the RA's but overall the response was extremely good. With many of the RA's left wanting more information.
It seems as though things are being taken very seriously on campus. We just started an Advisory Board last semester and within 4 short summer months we have seen progress. This is impressive and I looking forward to what this year will bring for my campus and others like mine.
For any University that is looking into the thought of doing Safe Space training for their campus, RA's, facutly etc. I would greatly encourage you to seek out the possibility because just having the discussion can make a world of difference. I am not saying that you will change people morals or beliefs, but you will get an understanding and an awareness that can immediately change the climate of a campus.
