Your hands are a door knock, your fingertips an email, your voice a phone call,
Your tongue a conversation,
You are a nation that can change the every day,
You are a door knock at a dean’s office,
A thunderous demand for the status quo bend and break,
To right every policy mistake,
To take action for equal benefits,
For the dollars they promised from your fees,
In this office, from behind that desk, they will hear us.
You are an email passed on to tens of thousands,
Starting in a dorm room, a petition for new bathrooms,
New buildings, library shelves stocking our stories,
You are a brand new club,
You can hit send on the campus you’ve dreamed of,
Let each key stroke be a battle cry in a quest for justice.
You are a phone call,
A dial to a queer alumni to come back and speak, ,
You’re an invitation to a party, all drag, and glitter, and safe,
You are directions to the parade, to the rally, to the sit-in,
To the sign making, to the sign waving, to the
Signing of a declaration.
You are a life changing conversation,
One mind at a time,
An activist in line at the dining hall,
You can share your every days,
The celebrations, but also the,
The kicked out, laughed at, baseball bat, broken, bruised, but still breathing,
And in this giving and receiving of heart and surprise,
You are a maker of new allies.
There was a hard door knock, and then a smart email, and then a phone call,
And a then a chest that swelled in a break through conversation,
We will come wide open, but we will fight injustice with our last breath,
Take away the option for fairness,
There is ripple in all of this,
So take action, even if it’s small,
Because mountains are often moved by ants,
Demand no less that the everything that you need, because-
When we QUEER IT UP!
There is no separate in equal!
And there is no settle in equality!
