Campus Pride is proud to feature this special webinar from scholars Genny Beemyn and Sue Rankin and their forthcoming book The Lives of Transgender People (Columbia University Press). Based on interviews with 400 self-identified transgender people from throughout the United States, this webinar compares the experiences of individuals from different transgender groups and offers a series of “touchstones,” or significant life moments, in the gender identity development processes of the participants who identify as MTFs, FTMs, female-presenting crossdressers, and genderqueer individuals. Participants will learn how the experiences of younger transgender people today differ from the experiences of previous transgender generations and how transgender youth are changing the definition of what it means to be transgender. This webinar is a "must" for any college wanting to understand and learn more about their transgender students, faculty and staff and how to create a safer, more welcoming campus for everyone.

Campus Pride joins with The Trevor Project to bring student leaders, faculty and staff a webinar on suicide among LGBT and questioning youth and the different environmental stressors that contribute to a heightened risk for suicide. Based on the Trevor Project's LIFEGUARD program, this webinar will focus on college campus communities and the impact of language, actions, and bullying/harassment on LGBT young people. Participants will leave with specific actions on how to recognize the warning signs of suicide and how to best respond as lifeguards on campus. A particular emphasis will be placed on best practices and experience to better work with LGBT youth populations. Presenters will also share programs and resources to support suicide prevention work from both national organizations -- Campus Pride and The Trevor Project.

Andrew McIntosh played lacrosse for the State University of New York College at Oneonta. While he played lacrosse, he was also captain of his lacrosse team and a vibrant student leader on campus. Andrew will share insight into the locker room environment, competing on the field in a team sport -- all the while being out publicly on campus. His coming out story was first published on OutSports in Feb 2010 and has been featured by The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Advocate. Andrew was also named into the Out 100 by OUT Magazine for his major impact on mainstream culture and the LGBT community. This webinar provides a story of resiliency that delves into topics such as sport sociology, sport psychology and humanities. Participants will be given authentic insight on being openly gay while participating in intercollegiate athletics. The webinar will answer questions firsthand from Andrew on how to create change within intercollegiate athletics on their campus.

Over the last few years, a growing visible population of LGBT youth have emerged for college recruitment efforts. These out LGBT youth want to find colleges that not only meet their academic needs but also provide a welcoming, safe, accepting environment. More and more colleges want to actively reach out to these LGBT youth and share their LGBT-friendly programs and services. Campus Pride provides an analysis of LGBT recruitment strategies, trends and observations from its National LGBT-Friendly College Fair Program and its LGBT-Friendly Campus Climate Index .
